What is Sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy is one of the most well-known treatments for varicose veins. This minimally invasive procedure involves injecting a specially formulated chemical solution full of sclerosing agents into the affected veins. These agents can help reduce the pain and discomfort caused by mild to moderate varicose veins. Sclerotherapy is also a popular treatment to improve the appearance of spider veins on the thighs, calves, and feet. Each sclerotherapy session typically takes between 15 minutes and an hour, so you can get back to what's important in your day.

What are the Benefits of Sclerotherapy?

There are many benefits of receiving sclerotherapy treatments at Precision Vascular, including:

  • Minimally invasive treatment
  • Improves the appearance of spider veins
  • Treats mild to moderate varicose veins
  • Minimal downtime and recovery period

What Can I Expect During My Sclerotherapy Treatment?

Your sclerotherapy treatments will be performed at your local state-of-the-art Precision Vascular location by one of our expert board-certified vein specialists. Before your treatment begins, an anesthetic may be applied to your treatment area. This is to ensure you remain as comfortable as possible throughout your treatment. Once numb, your specialist will begin making a series of injections into the affected veins. These injections will introduce the sclerosing agents into the damaged veins, closing them off, and relieving your uncomfortable symptoms. The entire treatment process can take anywhere between 15 minutes and one hour to complete. Patients with severe varicose veins and spider veins may require more than one treatment session to achieve their desired results.

What Can I Expect After Sclerotherapy Treatment?

Immediately following your sclerotherapy treatment, you may notice swelling, bruising, and tenderness around your treated areas. This is normal and side effects typically resolve on their own within a few days of treatment. You may be asked to replace bandages or wear compression socks to help promote blood flow and a quick healing process. Patients will be able to start feeling and seeing the results of their sclerotherapy treatment within three to six weeks of treatment, with ultimate results becoming apparent within three to six months.

Is Sclerotherapy Right for Me?

If you're suffering from the uncomfortable side effects of varicose veins or wish to improve the appearance of your spider veins, sclerotherapy may be right for you. The best way to find out if sclerotherapy is right for you is to schedule a private consultation with one of our board-certified specialists.
