Venous Disease in South Texas Area

What are Aching Feet?

Your feet can start to ache if you've been wearing uncomfortable shoes all day or have spent the entire day standing. However, when you feel your feet start to ache when you've been sitting down all day, there may be more troubling factors that can be causing this sensation. Patients with vein conditions often experience their feet and legs feeling heavy and aching, as the valves in the veins do not stop the blood from flowing back down into the lower extremities. If you experience achiness or discomfort in your feet along with discoloration, leg cramps, and varicose veins, we encourage you to come in to see one of our board-certified vein and vascular specialists.

What Causes Aching Feet?

An aching sensation in your feet can be caused by a variety of factors, however, a common factor among our patients is failing valves within the veins. The veins in our bodies typically work in a one-way blood flow system in which the blood flows to the heart and back around through another vein system. When the valves become damaged, the blood tends to flow back down through the veins in the opposite direction, causing the veins to swell and enlarge. This is what causes pain, achiness and heaviness in the feet and legs.
